When evaluating a live edge table, ask how the slab was sourced and dried. Timber from trees that fell naturally or were removed for safety avoids harvesting for furniture alone, and a slab should be kiln-dried to a moisture content of roughly 6% to 8% before work begins to prevent warping across decades of use. Pairing a reclaimed wood top with a forged steel base is another approach, creating pieces where industrial strength meets organic warmth.

Choosing the Right Table for Your Space

Dining tables should allow 24 inches of width per place setting and 36 inches of clearance from wall to chair back when seated. For live edge pieces, the natural variation in width means some seats will be wider than others — this is part of the character. Coffee tables work best at 16 to 18 inches high, roughly level with your sofa cushions.
